We were pleased to be able to run a successful Show Bar at the Hawarden A&P Show in 2021 after being cancelled last year, the proceeds from this will be distributed to our communityWe ran our Biennial Children’s speech contest this year in September which included students from Amuri and Hurunui Colleges, Omihi and Waipara schools from year 7 to 13, competing for the McIlraith trophies.
The restoration of the Balmoral Forest Lookout has been done with the backing of the Department of Conservation and donations from various groups in the form of money or amenities. We now have a great environmental asset for our community. Click image for info.A security camera system was installed in the Waikari and Hawarden townships and was made possible by money donated by us. The system has proved to be very worthwhile in making us safer by solving several burglaries in Hawarden.
Sales of firewood to our community has been a great fund-raiser for us through the years with all profits being donated back to individuals and groups in our area.In conjunction with the Amuri Lions Club we held a duck race (with rubber duckies) to raise funds for the Westpac Helicopter Trust on the Amuri Irrigation canal.
A great fun night was held in the Waikari Memorial Hall when we presented ‘It’s in the Bag’ a spoof on that popular quiz of years gone by. Selwyn Toobad (Bede Crean) and Tineka Tooshay (Kevin Earl) created a hilarious occasion for everyone.The investment in a BBQ trailer and a gazebo by the club has enabled us to support local events as well as being a fundraiser for donating more money to causes locally. We also have a chiller trailer, and Portaloos for hire.
